Display and logging
software for VS52(U)
Vessel/Engine Monitor
|
The NoLand Engineering C-port software is a Windows-based application which displays vessel and engine
data from the VS52 or VS52U multiplexer/monitor onto a simulated dashboard.
The basic VS52 model uses a DB9 computer interface, while the VS52U has a USB computer
interface. The designation "VS52(U)" refers to either unit.
The simulated dashboard consists of two alarms, five gauges, and two dials to display the received
data. A set of panes (up to 6) at the bottom of the display are available for viewing NMEA 0183 data, referred to as Navdata.
Each component is configured by the user for their specific needs. The real power of C-Port, however,
is its recording (logging) and playback of all displayed data. C-port also has a built in Data Window
for displaying data coming from the VS52(U). The Data Window displays incoming NMEA 0183 data to the VS52(U).
Each user configures C-port to meet their specific needs. Therefore, C-port comes with various
property setup windows. Several examples are shown below.

|
The Display Setup window (left) is responsible for setting the overall appearance of the
C-port simulated dash panel. This includes background images, clock display options, and number
of Navdata panes visible.

The example Gauge Properties box (above) shows the setup typical of an engine oil pressure gauge.
The appearance of the gauge along with all scale factors for the specific sensor are set here. The
Alarms and Dial components use similar properties boxes.

|
To display navigation data from NMEA 0183 sentences, a set of panes (up to 6) are avaiable as shown left.
The Pane Properties box is used to select the field from a particular NMEA 0183 sentence to be displayed
in each pane.

The C-port software includes the means to record and playback the displayed data. The log files are
text-based, comma-delimited files which can be viewed by any text viewer or imported into a spreadsheet, such as Excel.
When C-port is recording incoming data, a recorder-control box will appear in the center of the simulated dash panel, as shown above left.
From this box, you will be able to contol pausing the recording process and ending it. When C-port is playing back previously saved data,
a small playback control box will appear in the center of the panel, as shown above right. It contains fast forward, pause,
reverse, and speed controls.
